Volunteer

At Mitchell Giving Gardens, volunteers are the heartbeat of our work. Whether you're planting seeds, sharing knowledge, or lending a hand at community events, your time and energy help cultivate a healthier, more connected Mitchell County

Why Volunteer?

  • Make a Direct Impact – Help increase access to fresh, healthy food for your neighbors.

  • Learn and Grow – No gardening experience required. Come to learn or share what you know!

  • Connect with Community – Meet like-minded folks who care about food, land, and people.

  • Build Skills – From garden design to food preservation, gain hands-on experience in sustainable practices.

  • Enjoy the Outdoors – Reconnect with the rhythms of nature while doing meaningful work.

Support the Home Gardener Program

Help us grow a more resilient and self-reliant community, one backyard at a time. Through the Home Gardener Program, we provide raised bed kits, soil, seeds, and mentorship to local households — and we need your help to make it happen!

We’re currently seeking volunteers for:
• Bed kit delivery and assembly
• Bagged soil and bulk woodchip delivery
• 1-on-1 garden mentorship (1-hour session)
• Teaching beginner-friendly garden workshops

Whether you’re a seasoned grower or simply excited to lend a hand, there’s a place for you to contribute.

You can express your interest in these roles directly on the volunteer form.

Ways To Help

  • Garden Maintenance – Support the daily care and upkeep of our garden sites. Tasks may include planting, watering, weeding, mulching, composting, and prepping beds for new crops. No experience needed — just a willingness to get your hands in the soil!

  • Harvesting & Food Distribution – Help us gather fresh produce and get it into the hands of those who need it. Volunteers assist with harvesting, washing, packing, and delivering food to local organizations, pantries, and community members.

  • Workshops – Join us in empowering others through learning! Volunteers can help set up and support workshops for adults and youth, or lend a hand with community outreach and garden education events.

  • Event Set-up & Support – Bring your energy and helping hands to seasonal events, fundraisers, and community gatherings. From setting up tables and tents to welcoming guests and guiding activities, you’ll help create a joyful and organized experience for all.

  • Special Projects – Use your unique skills and creativity for one-time or seasonal projects. This might include building garden infrastructure (like raised beds or tool sheds), painting signs, or assisting with photo/video content. If you have a passion, we’re happy to help you put it to use!
